W dniu 18 czerwca br. zmarła
dr n. med.
Bogna Żakowska-Wachelko
gerontolog i lekarz geriatra.
Pomysłodawczyni i założycielka pierwszego w Polsce szpitalnego oddziału geriatrycznego. Wieloletnia Członkini Zarządu Głównego Polskiego Towarzystwa Gerontologicznego, Sekcji Gerontologii PAN i Katowickiego Oddziału PTG. Jako pionierka i lider rozwoju geriatrii w Polsce na zawsze pozostanie w pamięci pacjentów i lekarzy jako wyjątkowy człowiek o ogromnej wrażliwości na osoby starsze i jednocześnie naukowiec bacznie obserwujący mechanizmy biologiczne i społeczne towarzyszące starzeniu. Autorka wielu prac i publikacji naukowych z gerontologii dla studentów i lekarzy. Zawsze gotowa do walki o pozycję i godność osób starszych, umożliwiała kolejne etapy rozwoju gerontologii i geriatrii na Śląsku i w Polsce.
