śp. Maria Fołtyn
wybitna polska śpiewaczka i reżyserka operowa.
Debiutowała popisową partią Halki w Operze Śląskiej w Bytomiu jeszcze jako studentka.
Jej bogata kariera artystyczna rozwijała się na scenach operowych w kraju i za granicą. Już po zajęciu się reżyserią operową zrealizowała na bytomskiej scenie szereg pozycji, w tym dwukrotnie Halkę, poza tym Medium, Lunatyczkę, Damę Pikową, Carmen i Toscę.
Była założycielką i prezesem Towarzystwa Miłośników Muzyki Moniuszki i propagatorką jego dzieł w świecie. Powołała Międzynarodowy Konkurs Wokalny im. Stanisława Moniuszki, którego była dyrektorem. Jej odejście stanowi dla kultury polskiej ogromną stratę.
